Rocket Lawyer advertises its registered agent at $125, and that number is real but incomplete. The condition is not hidden. Its own agent page says the price comes with a Plus or Pro membership, in the line under the heading. Standard at $149 does not qualify. The cheapest route is Plus at $249. So a founder who wants only an agent pays $374 in year one, and the same every year after. Already paying for Plus for the documents and attorney access? Then $125 on top is fair. If not, almost every other agent here costs less.

We recommend Northwest Registered Agent for Alaska.
Alaska asks for two addresses, not one. The Division of Corporations wants a registered office that is a physical Alaska location and an Alaska mailing address. Both, held without a gap. Most states ask only for the street address.
Returned mail is what actually breaks things. If USPS bounces mail back from your agent, the Division treats that as proof the address is bad. It marks the entity non-compliant, and a non-compliant entity cannot file its biennial report online. Then comes the trap. Form 08-492 is the only form that replaces an agent, and the state will not file it while your biennial report is outstanding. A bad agent can block the paperwork that removes it. Bring the report current on paper first, then send the change.
Your registered agent cannot be another LLC. Alaska allows an individual resident of the state, or a corporation. LLCs, LLPs and LPs are barred from the role. No entity can serve as its own agent either. The state repeats both bars on the change form, in the box where you write the new name. Founders who plan to name their holding company find this out at filing.
The report cycle runs every two years, keyed to the year you formed. Form in an even year and the report is due January 2 of every even year. Odd year formations report in odd years. The fee is $100, or $137.50 once it is postmarked on or after February 2. Ignore it long enough and the state can dissolve the LLC.
Weight the choice toward the agent's address, not the sticker price. Northwest Registered Agent sits on the Division's own courtesy list of agent businesses in the state, with eleven others. The Division calls that list partial and not an endorsement. Treat it as a floor.
Switching later is not free, and most guides get this wrong. The Statement of Change, form 08-492, costs $25 under 3 AAC 16.065(b). It is the only form that moves your agent. You cannot do it inside the biennial report, the state blocks that field. Two lines on the form set the terms. Missed the January date on the biennial report by about six weeks. The penalty above is a small number so I assumed I could just pay it whenever. Is that actually how it works or does it get worse quietly?

It does get worse, just not immediately. The late fee is $37.50 as I write this and it attaches after February 1, so at six weeks late you are looking at the report fee plus that. What follows is the part worth acting on. Keep ignoring it and Alaska can involuntarily dissolve the LLC, and at that point you lose the name and the liability protection that was the reason for forming. There is no second reminder that makes this urgent, which is exactly why it catches people. Pay the report and the $37.50 now while it is still a small administrative thing rather than a reinstatement.
