What Is Rocket Lawyer?
Rocket Lawyer launched in 2008 and has helped more than 3 million businesses. It sells legal templates, e-signatures, AI contract review, and access to lawyers it calls Legal Pros. Filing is one perk inside it. It is no longer a product you can buy on its own.
The membership gate is new
Rocket Lawyer used to sell an LLC filing for $99.99 to anyone. It does not now. Their own business registration page puts it plainly, the free filing offer "requires a current Rocket Lawyer membership." We checked again on 3 September 2026.
How It Compares
Most reviews you will find still quote plans called Rocket Legal and Rocket Legal+, at $39.99 a month and $239.88 a year. Neither plan is sold now. Unlike Northwest or ZenBusiness, Rocket Lawyer is not really a filing company. It is a legal subscription that files things. That difference decides whether it suits you.

We last walked this checkout in February 2026. That was the old pricing. The flow is gone, so we will not describe it as if it still runs. What we can verify is the published price list, read again on 3 September 2026. It is clear and complete. Every add on price sits in one table, which is more than most rivals manage.

The document builder is the best thing here. We tested it in February 2026 with NDAs and contractor agreements. It asks plain questions and formats a document to your state. You can collect signatures in the dashboard. Rocket Copilot AI now reads contracts you upload and flags terms, on all three tiers.
Attorney Consultations
A Legal Pro answers written questions within one business day. Standard caps you at 12 a year. Plus raises it to 36 and adds twelve live calls of 20 minutes each. Pro removes the caps. For a founder facing one contract question a quarter, that beats hiring a lawyer by the hour. It is the clearest value here.
Skip the paid EIN
Rocket Lawyer charges $70 for an EIN, and only on Plus or Pro. Do not pay it. The IRS issues one free in about ten minutes, whoever is selling it.
The registered agent math
Rocket Lawyer charges $125 a year for a registered agent, but only on Plus at $249 or Pro at $349. That is $374 a year at best. Several standalone registered agent services charge the same $125 with no membership attached, and our LLC service comparison lists what each one really costs.

Rocket Lawyer is a good subscription. It is a poor way to buy one LLC. The documents are strong, the AI review is useful, and a lawyer answers you in a day. But the filing is bait for a $149 plan you must keep paying. We rate it 3.3 out of 5. Our scores date from our February 2026 hands on test. The filing is advertised as free and then there is a yearly figure sitting underneath it. Am I missing something obvious here?

You are not, and the page answers it in the first FAQ. Both things are true. The first filing costs nothing beyond your state fee, and you cannot buy that filing without a membership, which starts at $149 a year as I write this and renews. So the filing is free and the access is not. Two consequences worth having straight before you sign. A second registration later is charged separately. And there is no way to pay once and walk away, so price this as a subscription you will hold for at least a year, not as a one off formation fee.
